What’s the deal?
Potato Head Beach Club opened a decade ago, and it’s managed to remain one of Seminyak’s – and Bali’s – hippest joints. Six years later they opened the equally cool Katamama hotel. Now the brand is unveiling Potato Head Studios , under the umbrella of a ‘creative village’ known as Desa Potato Head – desa is Indonesian for ‘village’. The overall aim is to bring music, art, design, food, wellness and sustainability together in a single location.
Rooms
The stripped-back design in the rooms embraces user-friendly furniture and amenities made from recycled and sustainable materials, courtesy of designers Max Lamb and Faye Toogood, plus a bevy of Balinese artisans. Case in point: bamboo cutlery and slippers made from pond reeds, coconut husks and palm leaves.
Facilities
Besides the standard gym and spa, there’s a multifunctional gallery, a clutch of rooftop activity areas, an amphitheatre, a music recording studio and a subterranean nightclub right next door. The food philosophy is all about narrowing the gap between farm and table.
Extra touch
An extensive programme includes beach workouts, sound healing treatments, communal meals, sustainability workshops, live performances and more. By the time the Desa complex is fully open in May, Potato Head will have firmly staked its claim on the Bali map for another decade.
