Zhuhai boasts a location that is both strategic and arresting. Overlooking the Zhujiang River Estuary in Guangdong province, it shares a long, beautiful coastline with Macao, and was one of the Chinese Mainland’s first Special Economic Zones in the 1980s.
Today, Zhuhai is one of the most buzzing destinations in the Greater Bay Area, home to golf resorts, theme parks and manmade islands that take advantage of the city’s waving palm trees, ample open space and a relatively low population density. No wonder it’s earned the nickname of the “City of Romance”.
So what’s the best way to travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai? Here are the four best options.

With a mere 60km between them, there are no flights connecting Hong Kong and Zhuhai – however, a plethora of other transport options abound for those arriving at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
For a seamless journey, the SkyPier coach transfer from Hong Kong to Zhuhai is a direct and convenient option if you’re arriving at HKIA – with your bags checked all the way through to your final destination. You can book Cathay Pacific’s Direct Air+Land flight and coach tickets through our website, and your tickets will be combined into a single booking.*
Another option is to take a shuttle bus at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port , which you can reach via Hong Kong’s airport buses (route numbers starting with “A”). Alternatively, the New Lantau Bus route B4 links the airport with the HZMB Hong Kong Port Public Transport Interchange, a major hub for cross-boundary coaches and local shuttle buses.

While there is no direct high-speed rail connection between Hong Kong and Zhuhai, the entire journey – even with a change – takes no more than two-and-a-half hours.
Passengers from the city should take a high-speed train from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shenzhenbei Station. Trains depart as frequently as every 15 minutes, while the journey takes 18 minutes. Fares start at HK$82 for second class and can be as much as triple the price if you opt for business class, which comes with privileges like extra leg room, complimentary amenities such as earplugs and swivelling seats. Note that prices on booking platforms are always set in RMB.
From Shenzhenbei Station, hop on a connecting train that will bring you to Zhuhai Station in less than two hours. The exact length of the journey will depend on the class of train; classes “D” and “G” are preferred, taking you to your destination at speeds of up to 300km/h. Fares range from around HK$129 for second class to HK$409 for business class – which comes complete with fully reclining electric seats.
Travellers with Chinese Mainland phone numbers can purchase tickets for both legs via the Railway 12306 website or app, up to 60 days in advance. Meanwhile, foreign passport holders can book via the English version of the website.

Another convenient option is a 70-minute Turbojet ride starting at either the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan, which has six to eight daily sailings, or the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, with six daily sailings. Tickets range from HK$200 for Economy class to HK$300 for Super class, which comes with privileges like a complimentary meal, newspapers, priority disembarkation and exclusive use of the waiting lounge.

Compared to large cities in the Greater Bay Area like Guangzhou and Shenzhen, there are relatively few private buses running to Zhuhai.
If privacy is a priority, SkyLimo offers a deluxe chauffeur service from HKIA, complete with English-speaking drivers. For door-to-door pick-up, other service providers offer car hire in tour buses or five- and seven-seaters to Zhuhai, taking you across the border from Shenzhen Bay, Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To, Sha Tau Kok and Heung Yuen Wai Control Ports.
Hong Kong residents also have the privilege of driving across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge . However, you must be a registered owner of a non-commercial private car that measures less than six metres in length, and with eight or fewer seats – including the driver’s. The vehicle must also hold valid licenses and permits for both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to enjoy stays of up to 30 consecutive days upon entry, capped at 180 days within a year.
