Cathay Pacific and Dragonair have announced that flight services into and out of Hong Kong from around 11 am to approximately 10 pm tomorrow (Hong Kong time, Friday, 21 October) will be significantly disrupted as Severe Typhoon Haima moves closer to the city. The disruptions will include cancellations and delays.
Flights scheduled tonight (Thursday, 20 October) and until early tomorrow morning (Friday, 21 October) are expected to operate as normal. While it is possible that the Hong Kong Observatory may issue the strong wind signal No 8 before 11 am, our flights operations are determined by wind speed and direction at the airport.
Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest flight information on the airline’s website, www.cathaypacific.com or www.dragonair.com, before departing for the airport as the situation can change rapidly. Those without confirmed bookings must not go to the airport.
The airlines appeal to passengers to postpone non-essential travel as additional flight cancellations, diversions and/or delays are anticipated until the morning of 22 October (Saturday) due to the expected backlog of passengers and busy air traffic.
The airlines will waive fees on re-booking for all tickets issued worldwide (irrespective of fare type) on or before 19 October for travel on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair involving Hong Kong between 21 October and 22 October (Hong Kong time).
A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said: "The safety of our passengers and crew has always been our top priority. We understand that the flight disruptions are likely to cause inconvenience and our staff are trying very hard to provide alternative flight arrangements for affected passengers."

The airlines will continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates should there be any changes to the flight schedule.
