Hong Kong Design Centre leads Hong Kong creativity to the global stage

Just steps from Sham Shui Po’s bustling fabric market, the glass‑panelled DX design hub cuts a futuristic profile. More than a destination, it’s a vibrant gathering place where ideas, innovation and community converge. The hub is the permanent home of Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) , the city’s leading design institution, which has championed local creative talent and advanced Hong Kong’s design industry since 2002. 

Its location in Sham Shui Po is no coincidence. Long regarded as one of Hong Kong’s most authentic and culturally rich districts, the neighbourhood embodies a compelling blend of heritage and reinvention: “Design is woven into the neighbourhood’s identity,” says Rainy Chan, Executive Director of HKDC. “Sham Shui Po is all about contrast and harmony; it’s where century‑old Hong Kong brands thrive alongside young entrepreneurs.”

Destination for design

Serving as an inspiring gateway for visitors eager to discover Hong Kong through design, DX design hub offers a rich and immersive introduction to the city’s creative spirit. Spanning multiple levels, thought-provoking exhibitions sit alongside interactive workshops and talks, where designers, creators and craftspeople engage directly with the public, transforming visitors from observers into participants. Before departing, stop by The Fashion-Pop on the ground floor, a thoughtfully curated retail space showcasing distinctive pieces by Hong Kong designers and emerging local brands. 

“Our mission is to position Hong Kong as Asia’s hub for design,” Chan says, “and to invite the world to experience its creative energy firsthand.”

Forward-thinking flagship programmes  

The HKDC’s vision extends far beyond a single address. Through year-round programmes and initiatives, it nurtures talent, engages communities and champions the value of design across industries. “Design helps us look deeper and to see Hong Kong differently,” says Chan. That perspective comes into sharper focus this autumn through a series of flagship events that showcase the city’s creative dynamism. 

In September, as one of the key programmes of Hong Kong Fashion Fest, HKDC will collaborate with Milan Fashion Week to spotlight emerging menswear talents from Hong Kong and Italy at Fashion Walk in Causeway Bay, complemented by the runway show, exhibition and forum presented by Fashion Asia Hong Kong. From 18 to 20 November, Business of Design Week will partner with Switzerland, bringing together global business and design leaders to explore how design drives innovation and growth.

And from mid-November to early December, DESIGN@HKG brings design-forward installations and creative activations across the city. “You may encounter design on a tram, along the harbour promenade, or even at a restaurant table,” says Chan, hinting at what’s to come.
