Travelling with animals
We look after your pets as if they were our own. Their safety and comfort is our first priority.
If you need your service dog to be with you at all times, you are welcome to bring it into the passenger cabin with you. Otherwise, your pet will need to travel as check-in baggage or in cargo. Please refer to the below information to learn more about the different conditions of travelling with your pet.
Flying out of Hong Kong
Most pets can travel as check-in baggage on Cathay Pacific flights out of Hong Kong. Your destination, however, may have different animal transport guidelines – please contact your local reservations office to confirm your pet can be accepted as check-in baggage.
Before you travel, visit the IATA Travel Centre website to check that you have the necessary documents required by local governments.
Flying into Hong Kong
When you fly into Hong Kong, your pet will need to travel in cargo. Please contact your local Cathay Pacific Cargo office for more information and assistance.
Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has requirements regarding the import of animals, as well as restrictions for animals in transit. Please refer to their website for the most up-to-date information.
Travelling with Cathay Dragon
If you are flying with Cathay Dragon, or a sector in your itinerary is operated by Cathay Dragon, your pet will need to travel in cargo. Please contact your local Cathay Pacific Cargo office for more information and assistance.
Breeds that we do not accept
For the safety and protection of your fellow passengers, there are a few pets that we can’t let you bring on board.
Also, due to the health risks that flying poses to them, we do not accept brachycephalic (snub-nosed, short snout or flat face) animals as check-in baggage or for cargo carriage.
