Gigi Tung is the founder of Bo Charity Foundation, under which launched the food rescue and food assistance programme “Food Angel”. Food Angel promotes “Waste Not, Hunger Not, With Love” by collecting edible surplus food from local food suppliers and turning it into tasty, healthy and nutritionally-balanced hot meals. These meals are distributed to the needy across Hong Kong, including the elderly, children and low-income families.

Gigi’s accomplishments

Every day, Food Angel collects around 5 tones of edible surplus food to prepare 9,000 hot meals. Not only does this reduce food waste at source, but also helps alleviate hunger and poverty, educate the younger generation not to waste food, and care for those who are less fortunate. To support and recognise her commitment to addressing food waste and poverty, Cathay Pacific has been working with Food Angel since 2013 to turn surplus food from it operations into nutritious meals for people in need.

“Food Angel is just a small step forward, there is no need for us to be over ambitious. We just need to pay attention to our surroundings. Start from oneself. Cherish food. Cherish resources we have. Care for people around us. This is already a big undertaking.”
