Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair advise passengers that while flight operations at Hong Kong International Airport resumed this afternoon (2 August), further flight cancellations or delays are likely during the rest of the day and tomorrow due to the backlog of passengers, airport constraints and busy air traffic.
Passengers without confirmed bookings are advised not to travel to the airport, while the airlines are trying to assist affected passengers with alternative arrangements.
A Cathay Pacific spokesperson said: “Although the typhoon has passed Hong Kong, flight services remain strained. We continue to do everything possible to make alternative arrangements for affected passengers, but it has been a significant challenge as many flights are already operating at capacity during this peak summer travel period. We sincerely apologise to our customers for the suspension of flights brought about by the typhoon.”
“We will continue to work hard to ensure passengers are able to get to their destinations as quickly as circumstances permit. We appreciate their patience.”
Passengers who are booked on flights departing tonight or tomorrow are encouraged to postpone or cancel non-essential travel. The airlines will waive re-booking, re-routing and cancellation fees and refund all tickets issued worldwide (irrespective of fare type) on or before 1 August for travel on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair involving Hong Kong between 1 August and 3 August.
Passengers are reminded that the situation can change rapidly and are advised to check the latest flight information on the airlines’ websites, www.cathaypacific.com or www.dragonair.com, before heading to the airport.
The airlines will continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates should there be any changes to flight schedules.
