Cathay Pacific launches one of world’s first customised airline applications for iPad

23 Jul 2010

As the Apple iPad goes on sale in Hong Kong today (Friday, 23 July), Cathay Pacific – Hong Kong’s home airline – has launched one of the world’s first customised airline applications for the device.

The airline announced today that its CX Mobile application for the iPad can now be downloaded free of charge from Apple’s iTunes store, offering users access to a wide range of Cathay Pacific services and information. In addition to providing all the functionality of the CX Mobile app developed for the iPhone and other handheld devices, the iPad application also enables users to make bookings for their Cathay Pacific flights.

Cathay Pacific General Manager Marketing James Ginns said: “We are pleased to be one of the pioneers in launching an airline application for the iPad – particularly on the day this popular device is launched in the Hong Kong market. Cathay Pacific has been working hard on developing its mobile services and we are delighted to offer iPad users the ability to book their flights directly from their device.”

Cathay Pacific became a frontrunner when its CX Mobile application launched in April 2009, helping to make the airline one of the industry leaders in offering mobile services to users of smart phones. At the time, it was the only airline to extend its service to many different mobile platforms, such as BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, in addition to the iPhone.

As well as being able to book their flights, iPad users now have access to Cathay Pacific services such as checking in for flights, checking the status of flights, accessing flight schedules and managing their bookings. CX Mobile also links users to Marco Polo Club information and insights into more than 70 destinations worldwide through the popular City Guides. They can also find out more about the people who go the extra mile to make passengers feel special through the interactive “Meet the team” function.

The CX Mobile application for the iPad is currently only available in English. More languages will be featured in the next release.
