Scholars and non-luminaries alike will enjoy soaking up the atmosphere in this popular drinking spot. Sample a dram or two from the whiskey menu or just lay back and feel more literary at this art nouveau gem.
Take a trip on the jolly red Polybahn, a cable car in operation since 1889. Many tourists enjoy taking a trip on this old furnicular railway, carrying you all the way up to the main building of ETH Zürich, a beautiful university of technology. In 1998, the railway celebrated a historic record of two million passengers.
Art aficionados will be seriously impressed with the breadth of art on offer here, spanning from the Middle Ages all the way through to contemporary collections. There is an emphasis on Swiss art and sculpture too, so it's a great way to learn a little more about local culture, history and change.
Famous for it's cuckoo clocks, you can't visit Switzerland without having a quick look around the Beyer Watch Museum. Some of the creations on display are centuries old, and prime examples of the forgotten art of hand-made watchmaking. The attention to detail is truly stunning and the museum is a tru celebration of timekeeping from 1400 B.C.
Take a wander through the picturesque Old Town of Zurich and you'll find Le Dezaley, widely rumoured to make the best fondue in town. An informal atmosphere is matched with excellent cheese, so be sure to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. Wash your meal down with the fine selection of wines on offer, all from the Romandie region.
