  • All our aircraft are equipped with special baby bassinets and packs as well as a wide range of baby food
  • Each aircraft has at least two toilets with special fold-down tables for changing diapers.

Subject to restrictions mentioned in the section of Car Safety Seat, a personal infant/child car safety seat can be taken on board. Infant/child car safety seats may not be used on some of our aircraft passenger seats due to safety requirements. In these instances, specifically designed Child Restraint Seat (CRS) may be offered for use on the applicable aircraft type and class of travel instead, with prior reservation.

Please refer to the table below for a summary of some child restraint systems and read the individual section for details. For further information, we recommend you contact our Reservations Office or Travel Agents and inform them of any special requirements you may have.

+ Please be advised that any personal food items brought on board for consumption should not require reheating nor chilling. For hygiene reasons, our crew will not be able to re-heat nor chill food items brought on board by passengers.

Acceptance
  • A healthy newborn infant is ready to travel with us after the first week of delivery
  • The infant must be accompanied by a parent / guardian
  • Infant fare will be charged when an infant travels with a parent / guardian and the infant does not occupy a seat
  • The infant passenger must be under 24 months throughout the whole journey. If the infant turns two years old before the return trip, applicable child's fare, tax, fee and charges apply.
  • A maximum of two infants can be accepted for travel with each parent / guardian under the following conditions:
    1. One of the two infants must reach 6 months old and occupy an infant car safety seat. The applicable child fare will be charged
    2. The other infant must be secured onto the parent / guardian with a child restraint device. Infant fare will be charged
    3. The parent / legal guardian / travelling companion should bring their own infant car safety seat which must comply with the Cathay Pacific approved specifications.
      • The above conditions are subject to aircraft type. Infant/child car safety seats / Child Restraint Seat / CARES Harness may not be used on some of our aircraft passenger seats due to safety requirements. For further information, please contact our Reservations Office.
  • An infant, under 24 months, must travel with an adult passenger in the same cabin. An infant ticket, travelling without occupying a seat, must be purchased. Not all adult fare tickets offer infant ticket discount. If your ticket does not offer a discount, the next higher applicable adult ticket fare that offers an infant ticket discount will be used as the base for the discount calculation. The infant ticket is subject to fare rules and conditions.

    If passengers’ original departure point is Hong Kong, please contact Global Contact Centre to check the applicable infant fare and make a booking. For passengers departing from places other than Hong Kong, bookings can be made online or through Reservations Office.

  • All our aircraft are equipped with special baby bassinets. A bassinet measures 76.20cm (30") x 38.10cm (15") x 20.32cm (8") and can carry up to 12kgs
  • Please note however a baby older than 6 months may feel uncomfortable in a bassinet
  • A request for a baby bassinet (BSCT) can be made at time of reservation if passenger is travelling with an infant.

Subject to restrictions below, a personal infant/child car safety seat can be taken on board.

The infant/child car safety seat is required to have the following characteristics:

For infant/ child whose reached 6 months to 3 years
  • It has a well-defined shell (e.g. a plastic frame), and if there is a separate shell and under structure, they must be securely attached to each other
  • It is designed for easy and quick securing and removing of a child
  • It has a single-release-type harness that secures a child’s lap, torso and shoulders
  • It has a single-release-type harness designed to prevent easy release by the child occupying the seat
  • It has harness straps that have a minimum width of 1” (25 mm)
  • Any adjusters on the harness straps that are lift-type must be designed to release only when it is lifted to a positive angle, to prevent the child from easily adjusting and loosening the harness straps

Starting from 1st January, 2017, Passenger travelling with a car safety seat must meet the following standards:

(Note: A grace period is allowed for passengers to carry the following car safety seat travelling on or before 1st January 2017 as well)

For infant under 2 years The car safety seat meeting any one of the following standards is acceptable:
  • European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) ETSO-C100b
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) TSO-C100, TSO-C100a, TSO-C100b, or TSO-C100c
  • European Safety Standard requirements of ECE Regulation 44
  • United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 213
  • Australia/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS) 1754
For infant/child whose reached 2 years and under 3 years The car safety seat is required to have the following characteristics:
  • It has a well-defined shell (e.g. a plastic frame), and if there is a separate shell and under structure, they must be securely attached to each other
  • It is designed for easy and quick securing and removing of a child
  • It has a single-release-type harness that secures a child’s lap, torso and shoulders
  • It has a single-release-type harness designed to prevent easy release by the child occupying the seat
  • It has harness straps that have a minimum width of 1” (25 mm)
  • Any adjusters on the harness straps that are lift-type must be designed to release only when it is lifted to a positive angle, to prevent the child from easily adjusting and loosening the harness straps
  • It is in operational condition
  • Forward facing car safety seats are permitted
  • Aft facing car safety seats are also permitted if the use of such seat will not cause any impact on other passengers’ comfort/interest. Passengers must contact our Reservations Offices to request for an assigned seat.
  • A separate passenger seat must be purchased for the infant/child occupying the car safety seat.
  • The infant/child occupying the car safety seat must be accompanied by a parent / legal guardian or a travel companion of at least 18 years of age, occupying an adjacent passenger seat.
  • The car safety seat is designed for carrying an infant/child who is under 3 years old
  • The use of booster seat is not permitted.

Installation requirements of the infant/child car safety seat:

  • It is the parent / travelling companion’s responsibility to follow installation/usage instructions from the manufacturer of the car safety seat. The parent/ travelling companion is also responsible in installing the car safety seat on to the passenger seat.
  • The car safety seat must be secured to a passenger seat throughout the flight
  • A safety seat with an integral harness must not be installed such that the adult safety belt is secured over the infant/child
  • The buckle of an adult safety belt must not lie on any sub-frame member of the safety seat after tightening
  • The car safety seat must sit securely on a passenger seat -- whether its lower part is a shell or under structure, it must not extend unreasonably beyond the passenger seat.
  • No extension seat belt can be used for installing the safety seat
  • Due to safety requirements, safety seats may not be used on some of our aircraft passenger seats. Please refer to the table below and call our Reservations Offices or your travel agent for the aircraft type of your flight.

Due to safety requirements, infant/child car safety seats may not be used on some of our aircraft passenger seats. Acceptance:

  • The parent/guardian must purchase a separate seat for the infant/child using the Child Restraint Seat. The applicable child fare will be charged, but no extra charge on lease of Child Restraint Seat.
  • Child Restraint Seat is available for infants and children who have reached 6 months of age but are under 3 years old, with a maximum height of 100cm (40 inches) and a maximum weight of 20 kg (44 Ibs).
  • An infant/child occupying the Child Restraint Seat must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian, or a travel companion at least 18 years of age.
  • Passengers are required to make a reservation through the Cathay Pacific Reservations Office or your travel agent at least 24 hours prior the flight departure time, subject to availability. Child Restraint Seat is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
Acceptance
  • One parent/legal guardian can only reserve one Child Restraint Seat per flight.
  • A passenger with confirmed Child Restraint Seat booking must complete check-in at the airport no later than 90 minutes prior to flight departure time and at the boarding gate no later than 50 minutes prior to flight departure.
  • In Economy class, the parent/legal guardian must occupy a seat adjacent to the seat where the Child Restraint Seat is being used. In Business Class, the parent/legal guardian must occupy a seat forward or aft of the Child Restraint Seat.
  • Once installed, the Child Restraint Seat cannot be reclined or removed from the seat it occupies until after landing.

Breastfeeding your baby is allowed during all phases of flight. If you wish to express whilst onboard electric breast pumps may only be used after cabin crew has made an announcement informing passengers that electronic devices could be switched on and until the seat belt sign is switched on in preparation for landing. They have to be stowed for take-off, taxiing and landing.

A wide range of baby food is available inflight. Passengers wishing to bring infant food or expressed breast milk on board should note that our crew will not be able to re-heat or chill it due to hygiene reasons. Any food or expressed milk requiring refrigeration should be packed in either a cool bag or vacuum flask. Passengers may bring their own dry ice in quantities of less than 2.5kg (4.41 lbs) which is suitably packed to allowing CO2 gases to evaporate freely. Passengers must identify to airport staff that they are bringing dry ice on board at the time of check-in. If warming of food items or milk is required inflight, please ask our cabin crew for a container with hot water.
