Cathay Pacific recognises the importance of contributing to the community of which it has been a part for more than six decades. In addition to making a major contribution to Hong Kong's economy through its investments in people and infrastructure, Cathay Pacific is also actively involved in a variety of community initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) banner.

Leveraging the uniqueness of the airline business, Cathay Pacific motivates its staff to serve the community in different areas through the “CX Volunteers” corporate volunteer team. Its initiatives range from smaller projects responding to the specific needs of local communities to flagship youth programmes. Cathay Pacific has made a wide range of charitable donations, providing charities with flight tickets, other in-kind donations and professional advice.

The airline’s CSR efforts have been recognised in various ways. In 2010, Cathay Pacific was awarded the Total Caring Award 2009/10 by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services (HKCSS). This is the top award under the Caring Company Scheme that recognises local companies which demonstrate a “continual and sustainable total commitment in caring for the well-being of the community, the employees and the environment”.

Cathay Pacific has been awarded the Caring Company Logo every year since the Caring Company Scheme was launched in 2003, while 2011 marked the fourth time for the airline to receive the “Five Year Plus” Caring Company Logo. Every year since 2005, the Social Welfare Department has awarded the company the Highest Service Hours Award for its staff volunteering efforts.
