Volunteering

The CX Volunteers team was set up towards the end of 2007, and by June 2011, more than 810 staff had signed up as participants. CX Volunteers activities to date have been primarily focused on providing social services to the Hong Kong community, including a number of major initiatives in Tung Chung.

Tung Chung community initiatives

Since moving into its corporate headquarters at Cathay Pacific City in 1998, the airline has contributed to the Tung Chung community in a variety of ways, such as:
  • An annual charity sale, organised since 2008 by the CX Volunteers to help underprivileged families
  • Christmas parties held for underprivileged children
  • Taking more than 300 youngsters and their families to enjoy the Asian Youth Orchestra Family Fun Fest Concert since 2008
  • In summer 2010, volunteers ran a pedal kart design competition with a series of visits and design workshops to boost youngsters’ creativity and build their teamwork

Other initiatives

The CX Volunteers also helped to arrange Christmas gifts and a party for underprivileged children at Cathay Pacific City. Working with Caritas Computer Workshop in 2009, volunteers also helped distribute recycled computers to some 300 underprivileged students from Sham Shui Po and Tin Shui Wai, offering basic computer skills at the same time. Since 2008, Cathay Pacific has worked with non-governmental organisations to organise visits to underprivileged singleton elderly or elderly couples living in Tung Chung and remote villages in Lantau.
