Visa and related information for passengers travelling to / from the US

As required by the US Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, passengers travelling to the United States are required to present their complete address of stay in the US at Check-In.

Please keep this information handy upon arrival at the airport.

The US Homeland Security has announced that as of 26 October 2006, any passport issued on or after this date by a Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) country must be an e-Passport for VWP travellers to be eligible to enter the United States without a visa.

An e-Passport has an integrated computer chip that holds the same information printed on the passport's data page: The holder's name, date of birth and other biographic information. An e-Passport has it's international symbol on the cover.

A VWP traveller who has a valid, machine-readable passport with a digital photograph does not need a new e-Passport until the existing passport expires, provided that the digital photograph passport was issued before 26 October 2006.

A VWP traveller with a valid, machine-readable passport without a digital photograph does not need a new e-Passport until the existing one expires, if the machine-readable passport was issued before 26 October 2005.

The 27 countries participating in the VWP include: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The US Government has recently suspended the "Transit Without Visa" (TWOV) and the "International-to-International" (ITI) programmes. During this period, passengers who are normally required to obtain a visa to travel to the US are required to obtain a transit visa even when making a transit, or transfer stop(s) at any US city.

If you are flying CX828 / 829, please note that beginning 6 August, 2003, there will be a technical stop in Vancouver instead of Anchorage. However, beginning 4 December, 2004, the technical stop will resume in Anchorage.

For more details, please visit the websites below :
U.S. Department of State or
U.S. Consulate General, Hong Kong

If you are departing from North America, please note:

  • Hand baggage restrictions will be strictly enforced.
  • Clearing security and immigration will take longer than before. Cut-off times will be strictly enforced.

Infant Fare Policy

As it is a flight safety ruling that passengers aged 24 months and above must be assigned a passenger seat when travelling on Cathay Pacific, with immediate effect, Cathay Pacific's infant fare policy will be revised as follows:

Passengers under 24 months of age:
  • Not occupying seat: Applicable infant fare will apply
  • Occupying seat: Applicable child fare will apply

Passengers, aged 2 to under 12 years of age, must be assigned to a passenger seat. Applicable child fare will apply.

The age of the passenger will be calculated at the time of travel. Passenger, aged 2 to 12 years old, will be required to purchase seat at child fare even if the ticket was purchased before the child turns 24 months of age.
