Our second Corporate Social Responsibility Report, for 2007, details the Group's impact on the environment and the communities in which we operate, as well as the efforts we are making towards managing those impacts.

We continue to emphasise the Group's commitment to being open, honest and transparent in recognising and addressing its responsibilities. The report was shaped by discussions with key stakeholders, including our loyalty programme members and the investment community, as well as being influenced and informed by the Global Reporting Initiative.

Asian Waterbird Conservation Fund – WWF

Cathay Pacific, with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), launched the Asian Waterbird Conservation Fund by donating HK$1 for each passenger that flew with Cathay Pacific during July 2005 on routes followed by migratory waterbirds, up to a maximum contribution of HK$500,000. This kicked off one of the WWF's most important long-term conservation projects, for the protection of many threatened waterbird species and their wetland habitats.

Global Biodiversity Hotspots Map Project – Greenpower

In 2005, Cathay Pacific sponsored the Greenpower in its Global Biodiversity Hotspots Map project. Its objective is to increase awareness of ecological diversity among secondary schoolchildren, and foster the 'Think globally, act locally' concept among teachers and students in Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific International Wilderness Experience

Since 1994, Cathay Pacific has sponsored young people from around Asia to attend a special ecological course in South Africa. The young people aged between 16 and 18 not only learn about human's impact on the earth's delicate ecological balance, but also take part in numerous cross-cultural activities.
