Sharp Items

All sharp items must be placed in checked baggage. This includes knives of any sort, metal nail files, scissors, tweezers, and so on. If any of these items are found in your carry-on luggage, they will be confiscated by security, and not returned to you. Cathay Pacific Airways will not assume any responsibility for confiscated items.

For information on the carriage of needles and syringes please see Carriage of Medications/Sharps.

Your responsibility

Cathay Pacific takes the safety of its passengers and crew the top priority. Passengers should stow their cabin baggage in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of them.

For the interest of safety, passengers should co-operate with members of our cabin crew who may ask for certain personal items to be stowed during take-off and landing. On codeshare flights operated by Dragonair, this is especially essential around the emergency exit areas including the overwing exits and bulkhead. Baggage at these areas must be stowed in the overhead lockers. This is to ensure that no baggage would obstruct the evacuation process during an emergency.

For baggage that does not fit in either of these locations, is too heavy for you to lift or exceeds our baggage acceptance allowances, our cabin crew will arrange for it to be placed in the cargo hold. Aircraft coat closets should not be used for the stowage of passenger’s baggage. Observing your baggage limitations is essential for your safety and comfort.

Allowance for journey involving other carriers

Cathay Pacific has its cabin baggage policy. However, individual carriers may apply a different cabin baggage allowance. If your journey involves one or more flights provided by other airlines (including chartered flights and codeshare flights operated by our partner carriers), you are advised to check with these carriers for details of their policies and ensure compliance.

Observing your Baggage Limitations is essential in ensuring safety and comfort on the flight

Cathay Pacific takes the safety of its passengers and crew seriously. Due to Occupational Health & Safety regulations, Cabin Crew are encouraged not to lift or carry passengers’ cabin baggage. Our Cabin Crew will however, be able to help passengers who require assistance with their bags e.g. mothers with infants, unaccompanied minors, young passengers travelling alone, wheelchair passengers, the elderly, or passengers with disabilities.

Passengers are recommended to check in any baggage that they would not be able to lift into the overhead compartment. Any cabin baggage in excess of the allowable size or weight limits will be loaded with checked baggage.
