Tech Talk

Here you'll find the answers to all those little technical issues - everything from choosing the right browser to printing web pages and adding plug-ins. All designed to make your online experience with us as smooth, quick and convenient as possible.

Browser Requirements

We have designed our site to be compatible with most browsers, but we recommend using Internet Explorer 4.0 and above, or Netscape 4.5 and above as older versions of these browsers are unable to view or support the latest Internet technology (such as dynamic layers, JavaScript and SSL).

When using our Online Booking service, you must use the following:

Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6 (for PC users), Safari 1.2.3 (v125.9) and above (for Mac users), Netscape 7.1 and above, or Firefox 1.0 and above (for PC and Mac users).

By using the latest version, you will enjoy a smoother, more rewarding online experience. We would also recommend downloading Macromedia Flash Player, Apple Quick Time and Adobe Acrobat Reader to view interactive pages on our site.

How to check what version of browser you are using Windows 95 and above
  • From your browser, select "Help" from the menu at the top.
  • Choose "About".
  • A screen will appear, showing which browser and version you are using.
Macintosh
  • From your browser, select "Apple" from the menu.
  • Choose either "About Netscape" or "About Internet Explorer".
  • A screen will appear, showing which browser and version you are using.
How to upgrade your browser Internet Explorer Go to the Microsoft Internet Explorer download website, and follow the simple instructions for upgrading your browser. Netscape Go to the Netscape download website, and follow the simple instructions for upgrading your browser. Please note that some pages cannot be viewed properly using Macintosh.

Viewing the Site

Our website has been designed for viewing with the most common monitor settings. This means the screen area setting should be ideally set at 800x600 pixels. To check or change the size of your screen area, follow these five simple steps:

Windows 95/NT and above

  1. On your desktop, double click the "My Computer" icon.
  2. Double click the "Control Panel" icon.
  3. The "Display Properties" window will appear. Click the "Settings" tab.
  4. In the bottom right corner of the window you will see "Screen Area". The default setting for this is 800x600 pixels, which is ideal for viewing our site. To change the setting, simply scroll the screen area button left or right to increase or decrease the screen area size.
  5. Click on the "OK" button.

Macintosh

  1. Click on the Macintosh toolbar.
  2. Click on the "Monitor Control Panel"icon.
  3. A choice of screen sizes will appear. Select 800x600 for optimum viewing.

Printing Web Pages

Our website is designed for viewing on monitors set to 800x600 pixels. However, when printing pages from the site, part of the right margin will be cut off when printing on A4 paper. To avoid this problem, we advise you to print in landscape format. To do this, click on "File" at the top of your web browser, then click on "Print". A window will appear displaying your printer name. Click on the "Properties" button next to this. The window which appears next will vary, depending on which printer you have; for example, if you are using an HP LaserJet 4 printer, you will see the choice for "Landscape" or "Portrait" in the Orientation Box.

Plug-Ins

To help make our website more interactive and exciting, the latest Internet technology has been employed. This means our website features everything from vector graphics to virtual reality. To view vector graphics, Macromedia Flash Player needs to be installed on your computer. To view virtual reality, you should have Apple QuickTime installed. To download these free programmes, simply click on the links below and follow the simple instructions. Download Macromedia Flash Player Download Apple QuickTime
