FLY greener
About FLY greener
At Cathay Pacific, we take our environmental and social responsibilities seriously. We acknowledge the adverse consequences of greenhouse gas emissions on the climate, ecosystems and communities and are committed to taking action to address this important issue. We have implemented a range of measures to reduce our emissions to improve the environmental performance of our aircraft and ground based activities. We have succeeded in improving fuel efficiency by 20% across our fleet since 1998 and have significantly reduced noise, waste and water use in our operations.
While modern aircraft are increasingly fuel efficient, flying inevitably releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. At present, there are no "greener" substitutes for jet fuel - and none are in sight in the near future, despite extensive research in this area.
Cathay Pacific's FLY greener carbon offset programme gives you the opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint. This is an entirely voluntary scheme; passengers wishing to participate are invited to opt in by using cash or Asia Miles to offset the carbon dioxide emissions of their flight. The contribution is a fraction of the ticket cost, but it provides you with a means to make a difference.
Cathay Pacific and Dragonair's FLY greener programme is the first of its kind provided by any Asian airline and also allows Asia Miles to be used as an alternative to credit card payment. It is an extension of our in-house programme that offsets the carbon dioxide emissions associated with staff travelling on airline business with Cathay Pacific and Dragonair.
Our on-line calculator will work out your share of the carbon dioxide emissions created by your flight, based on the length of the journey and your cabin class. Emissions are calculated using fuel consumption data from the Cathay Pacific and Dragonair passenger fleet. More information on the calculation methods can be found here.
