Flight Crew

1. Who can apply as a Cadet Pilot?

You are welcome to apply if you meet the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be at least 1.6m high.
  • You must be a permanent Hong Kong resident.
  • You must be able to speak and write fluent English.
  • You must be physically fit.
  • You must have the following education background:
    5 passes in HKCEE including Physics and Mathematics, together with 2 passes in HKAL (Science subjects preferred) or the equivalent academic standards obtained overseas OR a Diploma/Degree in any discipline

3. Will the selection process take place in Hong Kong?

The selection process for the Cadet Pilot Programme will take place in Hong Kong. Overseas applicants are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation to attend the interview in Hong Kong.

Successful First and Second Officer applicants will be invited to attend an interview at one of our outports. Candidates are responsible for all related expenses. Short-listed candidates will then be invited to attend a second interview in Hong Kong. We will provide you travel, accommodation and subsistence for the final interview.

4. What is the retirement age for pilots?

We offer a full career to the age of 55 years.

5. I hold a foreign flying licence. Will I need to convert it to a Hong Kong licence?

The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department will provide licence conversion terms to all successful applicants.

6. What are the career prospects for flight crew at Cathay Pacific?

Qualified Flight Crew may progress to the rank of Training Captain and/or Check Captain. There are opportunities for Captains to advance into Management as well. Members from all ranks are also given the opportunity to take part in various projects.

Besides the sophisticated training and routine refresher courses that Flight Crew receive to keep them updated on the latest technology, we also run a variety of courses to help you develop both professionally and personally.

7. How do I know if my application is successful or not?

Cadet Pilot applicants who do not hear from us within eight weeks may consider their application unsuccessful.

First and Second Officer applicants are encouraged to send Update Forms outlining any changes in your contact details and/or flying hours. We will acknowledge receipt of all correspondence sent to the Flight Crew Recruitment Section.

8. What is the expected intake this year?

We are planning to hire 225 pilots by the end of 2005.
