Our Commitment to Protect Your Privacy

Purpose for which the Data are Collected and Used

We may use the Data you provided for one or more of the following purposes:

To process your request on purchasing our product(s) and service(s);
To confirm your travel arrangements;

For the operations of The Club including mileage tracking, delivery of associated benefits and services, ongoing research and programme development, as well as delivering news and information to The Club Members;

We may share The Club Members' information with The Club's partners and Asia Miles, and registered users' information with other wholly owned subsidiaries of Cathay Pacific, such as Cathay Pacific Holidays, to facilitate communication of news and information. You may opt in or opt out of this service during registration or when you update your profile. Otherwise, we will not share the Data of the users with outside parties, except to the extent necessary to complete the order / request on the purchase of our product(s) and service(s), and to fulfil your request when using our online services.

We use aggregate non-identifying information about our customers to better design our website. This means we may provide this information to third parties. However, this information will never identify any single user in particular.

We will never knowingly or intentionally use or share the Data provided to us online in ways unrelated to the purposes aforementioned.

The types of Data we collect, depending on the specific part of the site and that on our mobile services channel you are using, are:

Name
Gender
Date of birth
Mailing address
Passport number
Hong Kong ID Card number
Email address
Country / Territory of residence
Nationality
Telephone number

Frequent flyer programme number and PIN
Company name and job title
Credit card information including name of cardholder, credit card number, credit card billing address and expiry date
Travel details and preferences including:
Business information: business address, total number of employees, industry type, occupation, position / seniority and company travel policy
Contact information of the recipient(s) (where applicable) when purchasing gifts in our Online Shop or sending ecards from the website

You are not required to provide the Data. However, if you elect not to supply the Data as requested from each specific service, we may be unable to deliver you the online services in full.

Use of Cookies on cathaypacific.com

A cookie is an alphanumeric string of identifier that cathaypacific.com transfers to the cookie file of the browser on your computer's hard disk. We do not link IP addresses to any personal information. In rare instances, IP addresses may be used to assist in deterring and/or preventing abusive or criminal activity on the website.

Our Commitment to Data Security

To maintain the accuracy of the Data, as well as preventing from unauthorised access and ensuring the correct use of the Data, we have carried out appropriate physical, electronic and managerial measures to safeguard and secure the Data we collect online.

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol - an industry standard for encryption over the Internet, to protect the Data. When you type in sensitive information such as credit card details, it will be automatically converted into codes before being securely dispatched over the Internet.

The Data you provide us will be stored in a database for the length of your membership or registration validity, whichever is longer, after which they will be destroyed. The website has a firewall in place, which should protect the Data collected from you against unauthorised or accidental access. However, complete confidentiality and security is not yet possible over the Internet, and privacy cannot be assured in your communications to us. You acknowledge that personal information is disclosed at your own risk, and may be subject to unauthorised use by others. This may result in you receiving unsolicited messages from other parties. We are not responsibile in any manner for direct, indirect, special or consequential damages, howsoever caused arising out of the communication of information to us.

Your Choice

You always have ultimate choice and control of the Data we store, as well as the types of information you would like to receive from us. When you register as a member of The Club or as a general site user, you will have the choice of receiving, or not receiving, promotional materials from us or other partner organisations. We will occasionally send you email updates about our latest products and services, as well as special offers to those who subscribe to such services.

Should you decide not to receive any email updates from us, feel free to unsubscribe to these services by updating your profile or contacting our eService Centre.

Our Commitment to Children's Privacy

Protecting the privacy of children is our primary concern. Hence, we will not knowingly collect or maintain Data on our website from those who are under 13 years of age.

To protect the privacy and security of your Data, your User ID / Membership Number and Password / PIN are required to gain access or make changes to your personal profile.

We may disclose the Data when required by law or court order, or as requested by other government or law enforcement authorities, or in the good faith that disclosure is otherwise necessary or advisable including and without limitation to protect the rights or properties of Cathay Pacific Airways.
